catalytic oxidation

The OxyVinyls catalytic oxidation (Catoxid) process catalytically oxidizes liquid chlorinated hydrocarbons, including heavy and light ends from VCM and chlorinated solvent processes, at a relatively low temperature. The resulting gaseous product stream (containing CO2, CO, HCl and water) is ideal for recycling to a fluid bed oxychlorination process where the HCl is reacted to a useful product.

The process' mild operating conditions enhances operational safety and permits a design using standard, easily obtainable alloys.  These mild operating conditions are made possible through the use of OxyVinyls’ patented Catoxid 5 catalyst which ensures complete conversion of chlorinated organics at a relatively very low operating temperature.  The simple process contains only a feed air compressor, reactor, catalyst storage and steam generation equipment, which results in relatively low capital costs, and minimal downtime. Full recovery of chlorine value and a significant credit for high pressure steam generation, make the OxyVinyls Catoxid more economical than other currently available technologies.

The Catoxid process has been in commercial operation since 1974, and is licensed around the world.  The Catoxid process replaces high temperature, atmospheric pressure, incineration units.

The OxyVinyls Catoxid process represents the best fluid bed technology and is successfully used in conjunction with OxyVinyls' ethylene Oxychlorination process.

OxyVinyls offers the Catoxid process under a license.
