licensing & technology overview

More than 60 EDC/VCM and 20 PVC plants, operating in 33 countries now use OxyVinyls VCM and PVC technologies. OxyVinyls technology and licensing professionals work with companies worldwide, and now provide expert assistance in the selection, design, construction, start-up and operations of EDC and VCM facilities.

PVC Technology

Since OxyVinyls' legacy companies entered the PVC industry in 1941, OxyVinyls technological leadership has grown to meet worldwide demand for PVC by offering its technological expertise to licensees around the world.

More than 30 years ago, because of workplace health hazard concerns, forerunners of OxyVinyls led the industry in developing technologies to operate polymerization reactors in a "closed" mode, making plants a safer place to work.

OxyVinyls also developed the first slurry stripping technology to reduce residual emissions of VCM from the PVC resin. In addition, OxyVinyls also developed effective vent gas and wastewater treatment processes to reduce VCM emissions into the atmosphere. These processes were designed to exceed U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations.

The current worldwide operating capacity using OxyVinyls technology now exceeds 4.1 million metric tons per year.

VCM Technology

OxyVinyls led the development of "balanced" process for producing VCM from chlorine and ethylene feedstocks with the introduction of fluid bed Oxychlorination technology.

OxyVinyls' currently available licensing technology is in its eighth generation. Plants using OxyVinyls technology are capable of providing more than a third of the world's VCM capacity.

Catalyst Products

OxyVinyls also offers a full range of patented catalyst products used in the VCM production process. OxyVinyls' Catalyst products include Oxychlor® fluid bad Oxychlorination catalysts, Catoxid® fluid bed catalytic oxidatin catalyst and Super H2® acetylene hydrogenatin catalyst.
